Skaftafell National Park

In the morning, we drove to the park near the glacier Skaftafellsjökull. Iceland has the largest sub-polar icecap: Vatnajökull, a 3 trillion ton ice mass that takes up a significant chunk of the island. Skaftafellsjökull is one of the many "fingers" of ice that juts out between mountains, called glaciers. A semi-long walk led to the glacier itself. Although not completely safe, we climbed onto the glacier just to say we did. That was a terrific and unique experience.
